THE RUTH LORRAINE WHITE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP TRUST
My mother, Ruth Lorraine White taught her four children that education would set you free. It will set you free from the bonds of poverty and despair but unfortunately, higher education is not free. After many years of prayer, in 2001, with the help of H. Scott Poole, Esquire of the law firm of Shirk, Reist, my husband and I created the Ruth Lorraine White Memorial Scholarship Trust.
We received advanced designation by the Internal Revenue Service as a public charity; therefore your contributions are tax deductible. In 2007, we received our permanent designation as a public charity 501 (c) (3) by the Internal Revenue Service.
The trust provides a $1,000 scholarship to a member/participant of Bright Side Baptist Church in Lancaster, Pennsylvania seeking higher education. This scholarship is NOT limited to high school students. Anyone seeking higher education may apply. Higher education includes an accredited trade school, 2-year associates program, college or graduate school. (There is more scholarship information about the qualifications in the Scholarship Information section of this website). The money is disbursed directly to the trade school, college or university on the students behalf.
To date, we have awarded 31, $1,000 scholarships. ‘To whom much is given, much is expected.’ Luke 12:48. We hope and pray that you will join us in this endeavor.
